A visual division and a deliberate play on the perfect illusion. This mural captures the historic Döppersberg Station (now Wuppertal Central Station) from a perspective that literally splits reality in two. The mathematical title “döppersberg:2=?” follows a clear, rational logic: it divides the real Döppersberg precisely along the glass edge in the middle. It is a sharp division of reality into two inseparable halves - the stone original and its mirrored counterpart.
The viewer’s gaze is drawn to the razor-sharp line of the modern mall architecture, which divides the image exactly down the center. On the left stands the tangible original of the main station, with the venerable “Wuppertal-Elberfeld” lettering on its gable. On the right, the perfectly reflected duplicate comes to life in the glass facade. A surreal, divided symmetry emerges, in which reality and reflection face each other directly, eye to eye.
