- This mural pays homage to a unique piece of engineering. While the famous suspension railway in Wuppertal glides across the river as a means of local transport, its Dresden counterpart has been climbing the steep slopes of the Elbe since 1901.
Although both railways were designed by the same visionary, Eugen Langen, the Dresden system is a technical sensation: it is the only suspended funicular railway in the world.
This highly elegant black-and-white photograph captures the interplay of industrial precision and historical depth. In the foreground, the striking track guides the eye down to the Elbe valley and the iconic “Blue Wonder” bridge (Photographer: Christian Horenkamp, 2024).
