Young cormorants have brownish plumage for the first two years, which becomes darker and finally black as they get older. The name “cormorant” is derived from the Latin and means raven, due to its black plumage and its habitat by the sea or on rivers and other bodies of water (Photographer: wuppigraphy, 2024).
