Wall Art "125 JAHRE SCHWEBEBAHN"

To mark the 125th anniversary of the Wuppertal Suspension Railway, we are creating a very special visual tribute to this legendary icon of the valley. Our exclusive special edition of the ART EDITION shines a spotlight on the historic evolution of Wuppertal’s landmark: the modern Generation 15 articulated railcar. Since its ceremonial launch in December 2016, this series has shaped the cityscape and gradually replaced the iconic GTW 72 cars, which were over 40 years old. Since August 2019, all daily scheduled service over the Wupper has been operated exclusively by the new, sky-blue cars.

The design of this edition depicts the state-of-the-art vehicle appearing to float weightlessly against a sky-blue background. The elegant anniversary inscription “125 YEARS OF THE SCHWEBEBAHN 1901–2026” connects the innovative present of Generation 15 with the groundbreaking pioneering achievement of the turn of the century. This special edition builds a visual bridge between the tradition and future of Wuppertal’s public transportation history. The Generation 15 depicted here represents the latest milestone in a visionary transportation system developed by Eugen Langen as early as the late 19th century to connect the narrow, industrially booming valleys of the Wupper River. Whereas in 1900 Emperor Wilhelm II floated through the valley on a test run in the world-famous “Kaiserwagen,” Generation 15 now transports over 80,000 people daily using state-of-the-art train control technology. With its distinctive, large panoramic window at the rear, this generation offers a whole new view of the historic route and has long since become a symbol of modern Wuppertal in its own right (Photographer: DE, 2026).
