Stadt als visuelles System

City as a Visual System

Dirk Eichler

PRESS RELEASE | PRODUCT
No. 001/2026 dated May 17, 2026

In the midst of the Wuppertal Suspension Railway’s 125th anniversary year, the artist duo cam/b - the photo brothers - presents an extraordinary visual documentation of this world-famous landmark. With the “ART EDITION 125 Years of the Suspension Railway,” photographer Dirk Eichler translates historical engineering into the minimalist visual language of contemporary art.

A visual archive of architecture and color

The project is based on systematic documentation: all stations in the public transit system were photographed according to an identical, strict set of guidelines. Dirk Eichler isolates the steel Art Nouveau and turn-of-the-century structures through precise cropping and transforms them into high-contrast black-and-white photographs.

This documentary rigor is complemented by a graphic component: Each work is overlaid with one of ten defined color fields and the exact GPS coordinates of the location where the photograph was taken. The result is a deconstructed urban system - an interplay of graphic abstraction and architectural reality.

Artisanal precision and protected design

The works are presented as frameless direct UV prints on square aluminum Dibond (20 x 20 cm). A pre-mounted galvanized wall mount and special felt spacers on the back create a shadow-casting, “floating effect” on the wall.

Each artwork features a certificate of authenticity on the back with a forgery-proof hologram and a serial number. To ensure the uniqueness of the approach, the entire visual concept is protected as a registered design with the German Patent and Trademark Office (DPMA).

Independent Art Project for Collectors and Design Enthusiasts

The “ART EDITION 125 Years of the Suspension Railway” is an independent art project and has no commercial ties to Wuppertaler Stadtwerke (WSW) or the City of Wuppertal. The project is aimed at art collectors and design enthusiasts.
