“Tiger & Turtle” in New York: Manuel Heywinkel

Our premium partner Manuel Heywinkel is exhibiting one of his impressive photographs at the ONE ART SPACE photo exhibition in New York! The Bielefeld-born architect and photographer, who is based in Wuppertal, is participating in this year’s prestigious Black & White International Photography Awards Exhibition with his photograph “Tiger & Turtle.”

The exhibition will be on view from June 26 to 28, 2026, at the One Art Space Gallery in Manhattan. With this participation, a black-and-white photograph of the well-known landmark “Tiger & Turtle” from the Ruhr region will be represented in an international exhibition context in New York. The image will be presented digitally on a large monitor.

For Manuel Heywinkel, participating in the exhibition is a special moment. Even though he will not be there in person and the work will be shown digitally, the presentation in New York means special international visibility for his photography. The spectacular large-scale sculpture on a slag heap in Duisburg is considered one of the most famous and photogenic landmarks of the modern Ruhr region. The structure visually resembles a gigantic roller coaster, but consists entirely of stairs and is accessible on foot. At night, thanks to hundreds of LED lights, it transforms into a luminous work of art that fascinates photographers worldwide.

The underlying competition attracts thousands of submissions annually from ambitious photographers around the globe. The goal is to discover the best works in the realm of light and shadow and provide them with a global stage.

The Concept: The exhibition features the year’s best works across a wide range of genres - from street and urban photography to landscapes and minimalist architectural photography.

The Location: The physical exhibition takes place at the renowned One Art Space Gallery. Located at 23 Warren Street in the historic Tribeca neighborhood of Lower Manhattan, the gallery is considered a vibrant hub for established artists and visionary new discoveries in the New York art scene.
