Silbermünze 125 Jahre Schwebebahn (C) BVA

Special silver coin coming soon

Dirk Eichler

In November, numerous media outlets, including Der Spiegel 1, reported that the issue of the silver coin “125 Years of the Wuppertal Suspension Railway” had been postponed for the time being due to the sharp rise in the price of silver. Now there is good news: the coin will be issued—but not until August and with an adjusted face value of 35 euros.

The design has already been finalized, as we reported in our magazine article on November 4. The image side was designed by Berlin artist Heinz Hoyer. It shows a Generation 15 railcar pulling out of the main station. While the color blue visually emphasizes the feeling of floating, the depiction of the elephant Tuffi under the bridge arch builds a bridge to the city's history. It is a powerful design that perfectly combines the interplay of mobility, architecture, and tradition.

The reverse side features the inscription “BUNDESREPUBLIK DEUTSCHLAND” (Federal Republic of Germany), the federal eagle, the denomination, and the mint mark “A” of the Berlin State Mint.

The collector coin is made of 18 g sterling silver (925 silver) with a diameter of 32.5 mm and comes in a protective coin pouch. Initial reservations can already be made at various online coin dealers.

The official issue date is currently set for August 20, 2026. An up-to-date product image showing the new face value of 35 euros is not yet available.
