Accessibility - Why 97% is excellent

In today's digital world, an online store is more than just a sales platform. It is a meeting place. But what good is the most beautiful store if it is not equally accessible to everyone? At cam-b.store, we have set ourselves an ambitious goal: to achieve the highest standards of accessibility.

In Google's independent tests (PageSpeed Insights), we currently achieve a score of 97/100*. This is an absolute top score in e-commerce. There is a good reason why we are not stubbornly insisting on 100 here: real user experience comes before statistics.

Some automated tests have difficulty correctly interpreting modern design elements such as our interactive review slider, even though it is perfectly readable to the human eye. We have made a conscious decision to retain this slider as it offers our customers the best visual experience without compromising accessibility in practice.

Inclusion as a quality feature

Accessibility is often seen as nothing more than a technical extra. For us, it is a matter of respect. People with visual impairments, motor limitations, or even customers who only navigate using a keyboard deserve a smooth shopping experience.

Maximale Lesbarkeit: Wir haben das Design so angepasst, dass Texte "gestochen scharf" und ohne störende Effekte dargestellt werden. Ein hoher Kontrast sorgt dafür, dass Informationen auch bei schwierigen Lichtverhältnissen gut erkennbar bleiben. Daher ist zum Beispiel die Schrift immer Weiß auf Schwarz oder Schwarz auf Weiß, ohne Grauabstufungen.

Intelligent loading technology: We use state-of-the-art commands such as Fetch Priority. That may sound technical, but for you it means that the most important content (such as our main banner) is immediately visible, even before the rest of the page loads in the background.

Stability when surfing: Are you familiar with content suddenly “jumping” when loading? We have prevented this by using fixed layout structures (avoiding layout shifts). This is particularly important for users who use assistive technologies such as screen readers.

Collaboration with experts: Not every feature in our shop comes from us. That's why we work closely with app developers worldwide to ensure that their extensions also meet our high accessibility standards.

Our promise

An online store is never truly “finished.” Technology is constantly evolving—and so are we. We are currently optimizing the ALT texts of our images to further improve usability. A small box of technical terms for those interested:

LCP (Largest Contentful Paint): Measures the time it takes for the largest element (usually the main image or headline) to load completely. A good value is less than 2.5 seconds.

CLS (Cumulative Layout Shift): Measures visual stability. It prevents content from “jumping around” during loading, which is particularly important for people with motor impairments.

Accessibility Score: A score (0–100) assigned by Google Lighthouse that indicates how well a page meets technical standards for accessibility.

Contrast ratio: The brightness ratio between text and background. A high contrast ensures that texts are easy to read even for people with visual impairments or in bright ambient light.

Alt texts (alternative texts): Short descriptions for images. They enable screen readers to explain to blind people what can be seen in an image.

Keyboard focus: Ensures that all elements of the page (such as buttons or links) can be accessed and operated using only the keyboard.
